- Kids should have basic chess knowledge if possible - how to set up the board and how each piece moves. Not required, but will improve confidence and success.

Attention Newport Heights Parents!
This course is designed to compliment to the NHE chess club curriculum, and will provide some extra chess experience, advice and one-on-one time with the coach (the class is capped at a maximum of 12 students.) It's also a nice option in case the school club fills up and you want to give your child a high-powered chess experience!

Students can be absolute beginners, but a small amount of chess knowledge can give their confidence a boost and help them progress. Therefore, if possible, it's recommended that they learn the piece names, moves and setup at home before attending.
Newport Yacht Club, located within the Newport Shores neighborhood, includes a Clubhouse with kitchen, bathrooms/changing rooms, office, three tennis courts, seasonal heated swimming pool with lifeguards, sand volleyball court, children’s play area, basketball area and a marina with 119 boat slips. There is a full time, year round manager and swimming and tennis coaches in the summer.
