Develop abstract thought, react rationally to challenging situations, enhance problem solving skills, build confidence, learn sportsmanship and have fun! We will play in the classroom and outside. Come prepared to have all kinds of fun playing the ancient game of kings!

This session will focus on both classic chess and the enormously popular chess 2 vs 2 known as Bughouse!

A 5 day chess camp combined with a sports camp, challenging both mind and body! Runs Mon-Fri from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Sports activities include soccer, baseball, volleyball, basketball, tennis, badminton, ultimate frisbee, relay races, billiards, ping-pong, and golf, and include instruction as well as competitive play time. Chess instruction assumes players have completed at least one year of chess club, played in prior chess tournaments, and know chess notation.

Special Notes: 
  • Class sizes are small and intimate - limited to a max of 12 for lots of individual attention.
  • There is new chess content each year – different openings, tactics, not a repeat from last year.
  • Includes trophies, medals, rating fee, snacks, drinks. Chess sets and clocks will be provided. Discount for 2nd or 3rd sibling: save $40.

A giant chess board, on-going competition with trophies for the winners, a bughouse throw-down, a chess puzzle quiz show as well as high-quality analysis and instruction by premier chess coaches. There will be chess games and activities never before seen by kids!

Camp Program

This camp is recommended for chess club players and all young players who like to play chess, from beginner to advance students. The emphasis will be on having fun, playing challenging chess games throughout the day, and learning basic chess theory.
Students will learn to play games with different time controls, play with clocks, and learn to record the games (for beginners group). There will be classes on opening theory, middlegame and endgame studies, and solving puzzles.

Special Notes: 
  • Half day registration option available
  • Closing and Award Ceremony around 3:00 p.m. on the last day of camp.
  • Aftercare available until 4:00 pm
