1. For Parents
The first goal of chessflyer.com is to serve the needs of the parents of chess students. It occurred to me that there exists a unique problem with scholastic chess clubs. With adult clubs, the members and players are the same. Not so in academia as the parents are the ones who decide on membership and participation. Chess coaches tend to be chess "insiders" and nobody needs to tell us what a swiss style tournament or blitz chess is. We know how to buy our own gear and we understand when chess clocks are useful. Some parents are extremely strong players themselves, and in my experience most others want and need to know what to do to support their kids. They want answers to the basic questions and a clear recommendation for how to move forward.
2. For Kids
I find that by supporting the parents and providing good, useful information, I can turn them from being bewildered and confused into supportive and encouraging. All this will increase the chances for the kids to get to go to tournaments, clubs and camps and if they excel the parents will have a way of understanding what it means and how they can help.
3. For Clubs
You can run a club from chessflyer.com. You can get a free homepage, forums, an email list and more. You can schedule all your club sessions, members can download forms they need and even register and pay their dues right here online if you like. Chessflyer makes it easy to get organized, talk with coaches and get your questions answered.
4. For Coaches
This website is for chess coaches to connect with the parents who put their kids future in your hands. Create and promote your events. Teach, inform, answer questions. to be active. To write useful articles and get your opinions and knowledge out there. Support for publishing chess games, puzzles and write-ups is a major priority I have planned for this year.
